Re: My latest voodoo projects
I ended up going with the razer death adder black edition. Really nice mouse with good ergonomics. I just have to get the dpi tweaked the same as my g9.
I picked up a free sony vpl-vw10ht with a bad lamp. Do you guys know anything about projectors? I don't think the units specs and age warrant ~$90 for a bulb but maybe I am wrong. It has component HD in. Not hdmi, No VGA or DVI. My gut is telling me not to waste time / money on it. If you guys wanted a projector would you put $90 in it for a lamp?

Re: My latest voodoo projects
With no HDMI or even DVI, I would not. For copy protection purposes, most Blu-Ray players -- assuming that they even have component outputs, which most do not anymore -- will limit the output via component to 480i or 480p, at the absolute most 1080i. Plus, given the vintage of that projector, there are a whole lot of other potential problems. Save the $90 and salt it away toward a newer projector.

Plus, that is an early vintage LCD projector, and it will definitely have poor black levels and contrast ratio no matter what you do with it. Not worth the effort.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
The projector would be fine in secondary room. Or, if you happen to run your own company and need a projector for presentations, this might fit the bill. As a home theatre projector, I agree with Iago. Ten years ago, it would have been an okay buy (though pricey). Today, it's too dated and too limited technologically.

Plus, it is lower resolution as well. But you are right, if he has a use for it in another room, like maybe a game room, that may be worthwhile. For watching movies, no.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I actually wanted to use it with a pc for general tasks, browsing the net, IM, some games (mostly emulated), and of course the occasional movie. Basically when ever I don't feel like sitting at my desk. It would require a bunch of adapters including a sony smf 400 cable to get it hooked up to a dvi out though.
I wonder how clear text would display on it.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Any way to hack a LED or another bulb into it?

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Keep in mind that it only has analogue inputs, which means that your digital outs will have to be converted to analogue before going into the projector (and technically, depending on the design, being converted to digital again before being sent to the panels) so I would not expect the sharpness to be tip-top for thoe purposes. Assuming that you can get it back into full convergence, since it will doubtless be out of perfect convergence right now, and that also affects the sharpness of text. But who knows; the price was certainly right for something to experiment with!

This is East we're talking about. He can probably manufacture his own bulb for the unit . . .

Re: My latest voodoo projects

That picture was supposedly projected by a 10ht. All in all it does not look too bad. It probably looks better in real life but if mine was that clear I would be satisfied. Given the units age I will probably tear the entire thing down and properly clean all of the lenses. It also needs a replacement dust filter. The old one disintegrated when I was removing it to clean it. That should be easy enough to replace though provided I get it working.
The quality level looks acceptable to play some older systems on it as well.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Hopefully it allows convergence on the consumer menus; some projectors only have that in the service menu (though if you are ambitious and not afraid of screwing anything up, the service codes should be easy to track down online.)

Re: My latest voodoo projects
Given the price, I'd be all over the service menus. It's worth the risk.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
I am really liking this enermax max revo 1350w I picked up for the omen. If you guys need a power supply for a high end build I highly recommend it. My only complaint was the short thick cables make cable management difficult. Of course enermax used nice amply long cables in there display but the ones that come with the supply are so short I was almost unable to use the power supply. At least the fan noise is damn near no existant.

Re: My latest voodoo projects
A couple of days ago I came across a nice samsung lcd tv somebody was getting rid of. it is an ln26a33. It is only 720p but It is hard to beat a free tv. I think im going to hook some game consoles up to it and use it for that. I just wish there was some kind of filter to make the nes light gun work with lcd tvs.
