I cant get over how well the lian li pc-pe01 psu extender fits and matches. You should definitely grab one for future upgrades.

I just finished resurrecting Mr. Blur's orange 855 today with all replacement parts. It seems to be running well. I will have to post some pics. I am already using it to type this. Hes got dibs should I sell it but that probably wont be anytime soon.

Somehow the 3200+ seems to have gotten messed up in the fall as well so I had to use a 3000+ instead.

Alright just as I promised

It took a complete rebuild to get it to this state, New screen, motherboard etc. Even the 3200+ got fried somehow.

The UJ-811and battery are dead. Thankfully uj-811's seem abudent on ebay so It is just a matter of switching the trim. The battery really doesn't bother me, I am use to using older laptops plugged in. (especially considering the alternative is a poor quality Chinese made replacement)

Voodoo Envy m:855
Mitac 8355 mobo
AMD Athlon m 3000+ cpu
512mb pc2700
30gb hitachi travelstar (Seen better days but it will do for now)
Original keyboard (survived the incident unharmed
Original plastics (I had to epoxy a plastic mount back in place but nothing major, some minor cosmetic imperfections from "the incident"
New lcd display (Dead pixel free)
Original (Dead) UJ-811 Dvd multi drive

And thats about where I am at with it.

How sad is it that we actually remember details gleaned from a defunct forum?

Defunct forum, ...twice over.

BTW, Frosty grandfathered me at HP's Tech Forums as a "Tenured Professor" when TNB folded, NICE!!! However, they recently revamped the levels there, and booted me back down to Intern lol!

You guys should be glad you can remember, One day you wont be able to

Do you suspect foul play?

I only posted one thing over there and it was a plug for our home over here. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Gaming/The-NextBench-VoodooPC-HP-Blackbird-Forum-What-happened-to-it/m-p/575869#M1276

Continuing on that thought You would think John would be more active around here, given the loose moderation of these boards and all.

The cpu fan is a tad bit noiser then it probably should be, Must be home sickness.

Re: My latest voodoo projects

If you guys know of any good ccfl lights let me know. Just as long as they arnt those poor quality logisys ones. I guess In the worse case I could always make an led light for it using super bright leds It should only take about 6-10

I am toying with the idea of using some fluorescent back lighting paper from a smashed lcd to evenly illuminate the voodoo name on my side panel. (I never seem to have a smashed lcd around when I need one ) I may have to use the lcd reflector to direct the light but that would remain to be seen.

I got the idea from the first omen refresh (2nd hdd cage, Smoked logo and mask):

I could use the same method to illuminate the side mask but I am not sure how that would look. There is a fine line in between classy and tacky.

Its definitely something to try. I have never tried using back lighting paper for this before but its not anything that would require any physical modifications to the case (just some double sided tape to hold it in place) so I could always undo it if it looks like crap.

I am satisfied with my black and red theme (even my main flash drive matches) But I like the way that white ccfl's look reflecting off the chrome.

I have always liked this generation omen case. It is still one of if not the best looking case made by any manfacture to date imo. Some people would consider having a first gen with out the 2nd hdd rack a pita but between the 1 rack and that lian li 5.25" to 2.5" array bracket I should have that covered once ssd technology comes down in price. (The 2 hitachi 2tb deskstar drives are enough... for now )

The "smoked" logo on mine is etched glass, on your's too, right?

Agreed, I always come back to white lighting on this case.

Nothing on my omen is smoked / etched. It is a early revision. A lot of the cable management holes in the motherboard tray I have seen on omens are not present on this case.

I think that lcd backlight paper will give me that smoked / etched look and also serve to evenly illuminate the voodoo logo so that there are no bright or dark spots. Hopefully in my basement full of crap err vintage computer parts there is a cracked lcd to test my theory with

That case looks nearly identical to my RAGE. I thought that they changed cases when they changed the name.

Its funny you mention that. It could indeed be from a rage f:5. When I first got the case and noticed it didn't have the 2nd hdd cage that is what I immediately thought. Upon some further investigation I noticed that in some of the PR photos the omen did not have the etched glass.

If you look at the old redirect page closely you notice that side panel isn't etched either.

I will have to get the high res PR photos off of my old desktop later

I believe this revision case was originally used on the omen, Then they released the 1st refresh with the etched window and the 2nd hdd cage, then they released the second refresh the omen-r with the window moved to the left side.

I don't suppose there is any way to date it to know for sure based on the serial/chassis number short of contacting Ryan, provided they still have those records. (I am not very hopeful considering hp deleted all of the classic voodoo drivers they were briefly hosting)

Re: My latest voodoo projects

I had posted a FURY NUDE/B.A.M. case on TNB that I had found for sale on ebay at one point under the thread title "Older voodoo case on ebay" I wanted to get it but ended up passing on it. It did not have the signature window anyway.

The signature window:

This is what the one on ebay looked like minus the accessories:

On another note my sleeved molex extenders arrived today. I installed the first one to power the airbox lighting. Through out the entire ordeal I was thinking to my self what did I get my self into, I must be doing this whole wire management thing wrong

both side panels fit and it looks good through the eye of the storm so I guess that's all that counts

Btw which model is tha Iron Chef, I don't recall ever seeing it.

I was also working on making this into a wallpaper

(idk why it appears with a white background when its embedded, its suppose to be black as seen here) I removed the redirect, sound and looped it.

I will have to take a pic of my case when I get a chance -- it really looks similar. Do you have any ads for the RAGE: SLi? That was my model.

I might have some ads I will have to look. In the mean time here is something for you guys to play with.

fileden.com vpc.rar

Its beta because at high resolutions orange shapes become visible that shouldn't be, Ill have to see if there is a way to fix that.

Being as busy as it is It may be better suited for a screen saver then a wallpaper.

My RAGE case looks identical to the one EastT posted. I believe it is a Coolermaster ATC-110 case, though I may have the model number mistaken.

The Voodoo EGAD and Iron Chef models shared the same Micron case (I can't recall the model number). All I could find was a low-res image, but it looked like this:

I believe the Iron Chef models were geared toward business users and eschewed paint. The EGAD model stood for extreme gamer device or something like that. The EGAD eventually evolved to use the ATC-110 case. And, at one point, that same case was used for the FURY. In short, the ATC-110 was used for the EGAD, FURY and RAGE lines.

The higher-end Coolermaster ATC-210 was used for the F-Class line. Beautiful computers, but they were mighty expensive.

Re: My latest voodoo projects

Now I am really confused.

Here are 2 first generation omens without etched logos
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5889/3000omen12.jpg
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/9041/3000omen04.jpg

Yet the LIVESTRONG™ Edition has the etched logos
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5033/3000omenfeb1.jpg

As does the Omen Elemental:
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/2856/3000goldelementomen04.jpg
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/7205/3000goldelementomen03.jpg

So apparently the laser etched glass is something they started doing after they started making the omen

I agree, that the opaqued glass started showing up with the Omen, ...but I don't think it was "Laser Etched". I'd say chemically etched or sandblasted.
