Bump - oh no Tokyo

Post  agent1a on Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:29 pm

Let's hope Hollywood doesn't mess up the new Godzilla 2012 movie like they did with their 1st - but i see that TOHO has given their blessing so I'm holding out hope

Toho gave their blessing to the last one as well -- though they disowned it afterward, of course. At least this time the plan (supposedly) is to have monster-on-monster action, which was the one of the core mistakes in the Emmerich/Devlin remake -- at this point, you cannot have a Godzilla movie without having him fight something other than CGI helicopters. But the odds of any American remake being very good are very, very slim.

I Know.

Why doesn't TOHO just make the dam thing themselves!

And if that teaser illustrations is right I'm also not liking it - too lizard like the 1st one, and will be CGI for sure.

That photo was debunked by at least one person involved with the project:

Only time will tell what is true and what is not . . .

From that site =
"Godzilla in the new film will apparently be a CGI creation interacting with live actors and locations."

now i'm wondering if it will be a person hooked up with sensors to create the cgi ? that might be acceptable and interesting?

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla
"American reboot
Main article: Godzilla (2012 film)
... that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to the character and that a new Godzilla movie is being planned for release in 2012. In addition to Legendary, producers on the new film will be Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers, Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will be the executive producers."

so has TOHO sold out completely on Godzilla or just selling and sharing him for this picture 2012? Say it ain't so TOHO that you sold out.

But some of the names look good and look bad -

from
http://godzilla2012.blogspot.com/2010/06/knowing-producers.html

good = Yoshimitsu Banno
"So let’s look at Yoshimitsu Banno. I think that all who read this blog knows who he is. The director of "Godzilla vs. Hedorah", one of the more obscene but darker (in it’s own right) Godzilla films. Banno, has shown that while the film he made back in 1971 was extremely influenced by the culture at the time, he managed to get the allegorical structure of the original Godzilla in with his film, making it a fan favorite and an effective anti-pollution film"

bad = Dan Lin
"Dan does have some history with Legendary Pictures, specifically regarding his involvement with the film "10,000 BC" (a film done with the same crew that did the 1998 Godzilla flop)."

conclusions = we don't know yet what the hell will happen with this film =
"What does this tell us? With producers having almost the same amount of power as directors, this gives us a good idea of what is to come from this side of the equation. As we are still waiting for the other important parts of the equations: screenwriter, director, and composer, we can at least now speculate and hope that what we are going to get is good."

CGI is inevitable, regardless of what approach that they take with a new film. I love man-in-suit as much as anyone, but as fun as it may be, it is simply not all that realistic -- though the newer Gamera trilogy proved that a combination of man-in-suit and CGI can still be effective, even on a low budget. CGI itself is not bad; it all comes down to the quality of the animation. Unfortunately, the animation is usually bad!

Just watched King Kong ('33) on Blu-Ray last night, and while the stop-motion animation may be jerky, the actual quality of the animation -- in terms of the believability of the movements and actions -- has rarely been surpassed. That jerky, rippling-furred puppet was simply brought to life in a way that few more "realistic"-looking creatures are.

So what you really want to see is two sweaty men in rubber suits battling it out on camera?

Generally speaking, if you can see the sweaty men, the suits are not very good.

I have faith that your Mobiun gifts will transcend any obstacles -- or at least get to the other side of them.

Everyone has the potential to get to the other side so long as they never stop moving forward.
