Time to tap out - Cooling loop fail

Post  gdmaddog on Fri Aug 14, 2015 9:31 am

Hey all, poking my head back in here to give a preliminary heads up my red Voodoo Omen case and my original, stored Black-and-red BAM "Omen in a Rage Case" Rage system will be sold off as soon as I can clean them up a bit.

Earlier this week, my gaming system popped a line and dumped... no, fire-hosed its coolant into my Omen case while running GTA V, killing the Asus R3E MB and possibly one of my two EVGA 780ti Classified GPUs.  I'm hopeful the 980X i7 CPU and Corsair RAM was spared, but I'm spent on this DIY business for now.

In the next week or two, freelance work allowing, I'll be tearing down the Omen and digging my Rage out of the closet for sale.

I still have the old EVGA Core-2 MB and CPU that came with the Omen, but the water block [EDIT: Found the old WB!] and D-Tek cooled 8800 it came with are long gone, as is the original pump and res.  I do have the original fans and radiator.  All of this will find its way back into the well loved, slightly scratched, but beautifully painted Omen case.  Its got several marks on it, I used to use it as a LAN rig, essentially, hauling it from NJ to OBX (North Carolina beaches) every year - I hated the beach, but I hated the barrier island hinky internet even less, lol.

The BAM Rage is all original iirc.  My sales guy, Lance, called it an "Omen in a Rage case" when I ordered it in the early 2000s.  He got a case of beer delivered to him at the office from me for his efforts.  Its the one someone found here long ago, with a Crystal Fontz lcd mod behind the glass.  The HDDs for it are long gone, however, so the programming for it is long lost.

If anyone here is interested, please let me know and I'll take detailed pics.  Otherwise, look for them on eBay, Soon™

Some old photos:

(ImageShack ate the Rage's CrystalFontz mod photos, will take new ones as I prep the systems)

There are tons more of the various incarnations of my Omen's internals, but just the case, old EVGA MB/Proc, Rad, fans, and case are being sold:

Thanks, will do. I'm probably tearing down my Origen AE X11 living room system and eBaying that case as well - the R3E and i7-980x CPU from my machine are both bricked. Unsure about my GPUs and my PCIe SSD still... All this after not surviving the last round of layoffs at work, so cleaning out the closet is a good thing, lol

I've finished with a replacement system and hauled the old Rage out from the closet. I forgot how heavy that damn thing was.

Which raises a concern: With the original boxes for these systems long gone, how am I going to ship them? at 80lbs +/- each when built, I can imagine the box I'm going to need (box within a box?) and the padding will be a pain.

I think Voodoo had their shipping boxes made custom, so that's going to be a challenge (I think the cost was about $150 too). Maybe bubble wrap, foam balls, and big cardboard box and loaded into an exterior crate will do the trick. Won't be cheap . . .

Sorry to hear about your job.

I have had 4 of them shipped to me so far. All but one was wrapped up very good inside and out with bubble wrap. I still haven't figured out how that one rage made it to me with the glass not broken. The guy cut a box and just taped it around it, then shipped.

I can attest to the ups stores ability to properly package and ship a rage safely. Lago's rage arrived mint.

I will keep an eye on this. I would like the red omen but its hard for me to justify buying a 3rd one.

Also can I ask the brand and model rad in your omen r? I am planning to run water when I finally do my next build. May use my r depending which case works better with my desk arrangement when I finally move.

I could not remember if I had the original box or not. But now that you reminded me, yes, they really do good work.

And yes, gdmaddog, sorry to hear about the job!
