HP Omen? Sad... lol!

I would rather have an Asus ROG Gaming Laptop myself. Or a Falcon Northwest if I ever get that rich. Very Happy

Hmmm again. Bit of a bummer seeing the OMEN name attached to something that relatively under-powered.

I would like to see it become a good "voodoo" laptop but it's not a OMEN. They should of just kept the line separate like dell did with Alienware. They could of keep the ENVY name untarnished.

It looks like we will know something in a few more days.

I have been following the alienware 13, still iffy on it, but do like the potential of the dock connector. Hope they make it where it works with all of there pc's. So now I am waiting to see this come out to see what it has vs price, rumors of a new 15" alien or MSI gs70 with 970.

The major defect in the DV series and HP's handling of the matter should be taken into consideration before looking at any HP products.

I got burnt with them before on the TX1420 tablet series (motherboards got hot and after about a year the wifi card started going out, then more problems popped up) I got from them before. If I get one I will not be day one adopter.

I see the specs are out, looks like it has a 860m in it, why when I read the 970's run just as cool? Old tech at new tech price just like the just released alienware 13.

Yeah, I will not be impressed with anything less than a 900m series at this point. Unlike the entire 600m-800m run, which are have been nothing more than tweaked refreshes of the exact same architecture, the 900m series is a substantial step up. I put twin 8GB 980ms into the laptop that I just ordered. You do not have to be that over-the-top, but putting an 800m, and a relatively lowly 860m at that, into a brand new laptop takes a lot of the charm out of it.

wtf

Post  febtiger on Sun Nov 23, 2014 7:15 pm

I fail to see any selling point or even true competitiveness of this laptop at release. The gaming hardware is a little overpriced, GPU is 8-series, so it's old and HP loses on that point. The laptop is not particularly thin or light, so there isn't really much in terms of outstanding portability. The battery life is not particularly good and the screen isn't amazing either. It also has that Beats audio crap that HP keeps pushing. There are literally no features that make this laptop attractive to me more than an GS60 or a gigabyte P35/p34 v3 (similarly priced laptops that are thinner, lighter, and have the new 970m). At first glance I thought this would be a successful Envy 133 reboot but I was severely disappointing when I saw more pictures at different angles. It's ugly. I cringe every time I walk into a store and see HP laptops with the Envy label. Omen printers. Now there's this piece of crap.

Almost ordered one but I had a $500 fell credit and got a XPS 13. Which is pretty awesome!

Still using the x61t here. Upgraded it to 8gb of ram, flashed it to middleton to enable sata II support and installed a 240gb ssd. Things a beast in every aspect except graphics.

The best graphics I have is the 335 GT in my M11x I use it for travel. Right now the Omen, Alienware 12/15, MSI GS70 are the top ones I have been looking at for a replacement.

Twin 980m chips in my new laptop. Puts most desktops to shame on the graphics front!

Spoke too soon. I see they have now 960m version out, and released a "pro" version with a sucky quadro card with a more powerful i7. That's about it so far. I was hoping for a 970m. I still haven't gotten a new laptop yet, just been looking and waiting. I hate that on the new alienware you can't even upgrade your own cpu but it looks like they are all about going that direction lately.

Should have a few pictures of the omen alive here sometime this week. The son got a new system I got his old 4 way SLI motherboard and water cooled I5 K edition dropped into it now.

I played with one briefly at a Best Buy store. I obviously didn't get to test it. It was priced around the $2000 (CDN) mark. It looked nice enough (the design was subtle and I liked that it was all aluminium). I suppose it's okay for what you pay, but you can probably do better with other brands, and you can certainly get more power if you're willing to spend more. It was odd seeing the Voodoo wallpaper used for an HP laptop.

I don't usually see anything like that at my local best buy. If it is it's in the box and unless you buy you can't touch it. They have one ROG 17" laptop out on the end and a ton of 15.6/17" machines lined up and the clerks trying to convince me because it has a nividia sticker it will fit all my gaming needs. I am sure a 820m sounds good on paper only.

I have waited till everything released on the 9xx series and still undecided.

Been looking at Alienware 13,15,17, MSI GS70/60, Razer Blade and the Omen. But I haven't been able to look at in person even one of them so far and I have even looked at some of the places I have been overseas with out any luck.

The ROG is nice, but it's higher resolution screen will probably handicap it when playing games. In some ways, the Omen's lower screen resolution is probably better, given that these machines share similar specs. Lower pixels to push means higher fps.

For whatever reason, I was able to get my mitts on the Omen. It felt well built and looked decent, and it's probably just fine as a casual gaming machine for someone who doesn't want to break the bank. That said, I'm sure people can find an equivalently spec'd MSI, Asus or some other brand for less money. And hardcore gamers will want more power. With the 960m, or whatever it is that's in the Omen now, I think you'd be fine to play most new games on high settings. But you wouldn't be able to crank everything to the max.

Iago has bought at least one (maybe two) computers from Digital Storm, and he's been pleased with their products. I believe their laptops start at just under $1500 and go up to OMFG (in both specs, speed and price). You might want to check out their website.

It may be time to look to see what they have. I have also been looking around xotic pc to see what was offered in general.

335gt is my best mobile CPU right now. If I can't decide I may say screw it and get a base model Alienware alpha (i3,4gb, 500gb HD for 400 dollars) and a portable monitor. I already have a Belkin gaming pad, roll up keyboard and travel gaming mouse.

Not looking for the top notch but leaning more toward 960, 970 or 980m. I do NOT want 4k gaming, 1080 is more than fine. I don't run that on some of my desktops. And I could care less about a touchscreen. I got Pentium 2 toughbooks at 300mhz that have that, so it's over played with me. The main thing is it runs cool and lasts a while.

I am very pleased with my clevo w230ss. IPS display is very nice even in direct sunlight. Only complaints are the island keyboard design and the right and left mouse buttons.

I am currently in possession of a customers ROG 15" i5. I am currently waiting for the replacement power brick they ordered to show up (I will not recommend or supply a third party power brick) It supposedly has an issue with the lcd. The build quality feels very nice on the ROG. It feels more rugid then the clevo. The left and right mouse buttons are very solid as well.

I may do a better review once the ROG is working again.
