Not on my bucket list, but...

Post  ethelred on Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:35 am

... on a whim at the age of 66, I signed up to play my first MMORwhatever called Wartune.  I'm now learning that I shouldn't have sold so many of the gems I collected in the beginning of the game.Rolling Eyes

If you sold the gems, are you able to buy them back?

I can buy them back using real cash or wait and slowly collect them again. In the early rounds of the game the gems appear much more frequently then in the later rounds.

Just give it a month and we will find ethelred sitting in front of slot machines at the casinos all day with a cup by his side. Hopefully no oxygen tank, though -- he has not been retired that long yet.

We can start by finding him a lucky ball cap.

This is on my bucket list--we are heading to Bristol, TN this pm for a week of NASCA races. Never been, not sure how I will like the race & the noise, but I like to travel.

I've heard that most people who go have a good time. It's hard to appreciate how fast the cars are going until you see it live. Have fun.

And never fear; being retired and all, you probably are too deaf to notice the noise anyway!

Had a blast. Saw four races during the week. The final race we saw Matt Kenseth, from Wisconsin, win. The Bristol Speedway is a .5 mile oval so if you sit high enough (which we did) it's possible to see the entire track. The seating capacity is 165K but there were only 131K in attendance for the main event (it's still that economy thing). The noise is deafening but we wore headsets that allowed us to follow driver / pit crew conversatons as well as talk to each other.

Glad you had fun -- and that you saved your hearing! That kind of noise level would be a non-starter for me.

So what is next, on or off you bucket list?

By the way, we came this close to the Norwalk marathon again this year, but other ones worked out better. Some day we will end up heading back down that way!

We are going with my sister & hubby to do the Blue Ridge Pkwy in mid-October--Fall colors should be great. Also going to tour Biltmore in Ashville, NC which is along the way.

Next year we were going to Canada, but now our friends from Oregon are not sure. As it looks now we will be going to the Black Hills area in May with my sister & hubby; Denver in late June with a bunch of us (Cool trailoring our bikes to ride in Estes Park; Washington, DC in late July with the grandkids; and Denver again (date unknown) with my father-in-law (a WW II) for a reunion of the 10th Mountain Division.

Oregon is beautiful.

If you do happen to hit Alberta and you have nothing to do, give me a shout. And if you go through BC, keep an eye on your speed. An odd law was passed a few years ago and the RCMP can now impound vehicles on the spot if the officer deems the driver was speeding excessively. There have been quite a few people stranded on the side of road, in areas with no cell coverage (mountains get in the way of cell signals).

So do not practice anything that you saw at the track!
