It has a certain cool factor to it but I wouldn't expect the sound quality is any different then my old s2. I am sure there are a few people out there that will have to have it though. Just not my niche.

I have a pretty cool awia cassette walkman from the 80s though. I will have to post some pictures of it when I get some time.

The sound quality might be okay if the unit has a dedicated line out, but then that kinda defeats the purpose of a portable unit when you start adding other equipment.

When I was in Brazil, there was a bunch of swap meets with folks selling all types of radios. One I bought was a mitusubishi radio from the 60's and of course it was stolen at the airport. Bummer.

Sony walkman not old enough for me.

The bane of most decks. It rarely, rarely gave the same performance on both directions.

While we are on the subject

CrO2! I believe its a TDK MA-R90.

Might actually get some play time in the trans am depending on what radio I decide on. I wish I could keep the original in there but it is pretty much ruined as a result of the cowl water leak.

I have been driving the same company car since 2006, and since it has a tape deck but no CD player, for the first couple of years I spent a lot of time cutting TDK tapes of my music. Getting an iPod solved that need, of course, but there was a real sense of accomplishment planning out and making a "best of"-type tape. Dragging and dropping into playlists may be easier and quicker, but it is a bit less satisfying. (Ah, memories . . . I even made a "mix tape" for Eve when we were still dating over 12 years ago. Those days are definitely gone!)

I remember that too. The timing and delicate touch needed to make everything sound proper certainly did require more involvement. Drag-and-drop playlists with auto-delay settings between tracks certainly produces more consistent results and with storage space a non-issue, the whole thing is easier. But I agree, the sense of accomplishment is not there.
