The price is impressive, but only if you download it -- on disc it is nearly double. I have been perfectly happy with 7; is there any reason to even consider the upgrade?

The blog does state you can still upgrade from XP. That would rock on a few projects I have as getting a legal XP install is easy. I got the disks and if I run out of COA's ebay has them for about 3 bucks each.

Absolutely. you enjoy looking at a large screen that has greasy finger prints on it.

I really do not like 8, It is geared toward tablet pcs, does not seem very power user friendly. There is no start menu, M$ replaced it with a "home screen"

{N-TYSH}

I had no plans to do so; I was just curious if maybe I was missing something important.

I hate to jump to conclusions, but methinks that ethelred may not be a fan.

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on the kids Touchsmart, got it as a download for $14.99 (with a recent purchase), ...I'm afraid I'm going to spend more than that trying to learn it.

We have had very mixed feeling on it in the toughbook forums. To give the desktop a more classic feel and give yourself back the start button look for "classic shell" free, stardock also has a add on for that too. I think it's about 5 bucks from them.

From my perspective, MS changes for Windows and Office are essentially change for the sake of change when it comes to the user interface. What is gained by renaming a function and moving from the left side to the screen to the right?
