Windows 8 have you tried it?

Post  ADOR on Mon Mar 12, 2012 6:35 am

Has anyone tried it out yet? Most of the guys on the toughbook forums hate it. I had thought about booting it up in a virtual machine but with reviews like that it sounds like a waste of time right now.

Haven't given it a spin yet. Not sure I will anytime soon, as I have no real need.

Is there any reason to use it for a desktop or regular laptop? From what I can tell, there seems to be none.

I was still using xp until last week when I formatted to play some dx11 games. When I am done messing around I intend to reinstall xp.

I have mainly stuck with xp and windows 7. I have learned to skip vista, no matter how much I tweak it it doesn't seem to run as good as the untweaked windows 7 install.

As 8 running on the toughbook a lot of that is driver issues and the format of how they have things placed say in metro. We still haven't got windows 7 running flawless on some toughbooks. Always something small that won't work. Maybe screen rotation on a tablet will work. Two people will have the same model and have different problems. But if you can over look little stuff it's fine.

I have been perfectly happy with 7 so far, so it would take something major to make me want to switch.
