Pepsi from south of the border

Post  PhotoOtaku on Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:31 pm

Is it the same deal as Coke from Mexico, made with cane sugar and not corn syrup? I bought a case of Pepsi today and honestly not anymore refreshing than "domestic" Pepsi.

I really enjoyed the pepsi throwback when they first introduced it with cane sugar. I still buy it once in a while but for the most part now I cant taste the difference. I don't think that they are using as much natural sugar as when they first reintroduced it.

I am still mad at snapple for discontinuing my all time favorite drink back around 2006 or so, but that's a topic for a different rant.

Throwback is an LTO item that comes and goes. Currently, we have it again, at least in my market. Not sure about any of that "foreign" stuff.

Not content with simply using a knife on me, you have to twist it as well, don't you?

Mind you, I have found a few acceptable alternatives. It may be best that I never find the stuff -- the reality may fall short of my memories.

I have some "DragonFire" Gum circa 2005. It was discontinued a couple years back. I had 8 pieces left but I chewed 2 (One the other day and one today, Still tastes great) I am really mad that it is no longer available, Now I only have 6 pieces left damn it. No make that 5 because typing this made me want some.

The gum still tastes good but it seems to have lost what ever made it super hot in the last 6 years... Anyway if you guys know a comparable substitute I would be in your debt.

Costco is selling the Mexico pure-cane sugar coca cola (case of 12 I think, for 32.00 if I remember correctly).

Not much luck here either -- we sold out what we got and may not receive any more.

I will never drink coke/ pepsi from mexico. Their quality control has gotten better, but i still remember their practice of bottling was crude and dirty.

bottles not cleaned, roaches everywhere, and for what ever reason hairs in the mix. My dad wouldn't let us drink it. He wouldn't let us eat any of mexican candy either. My dad was an importer of mexican products in the early 90's.

Have you spent much time inside the kitchens of American restaurants? They can be just as scary. I have some accounts that I would never eat at.

Re: Pepsi from south of the border

I had a friend who used to drive truck for Asian Foods who gave me a list of Asian restaurants NOT to visit, based on what he had seen in the kitchens.

My wife worked for a Sezchuan restaurant a couple of decades ago where they kept the chicken chunks for many of their dishes in an open bowl at room temperature all day long. She avoided eating chicken dishes there.

When it comes to ordering Chinese food I stick to a single family owned restaurant.
