Very much so. I still have a ton of work to do getting things transferred over to it, but I have to admit that I have put a few hours into Deus Ex Human Revolution with all settings maxed. Fun, and pretty!

I have been wanting to get the new deus game since before its release. Everybody I have talked to so far that has played it has had really positive things to say about it.

I am glad that you are enjoying the x7200. Just remember to keep the fans super clean. Even though your warranty should cover any damages releated to dirty fans they always manage to scratch up the plastics during disassembly / reassembly. It is not a road you want to go down if it can be avoided.

Btw with the settings maxed how hot does the x7200 get?

I was actually surprised that the d900t runs cooler with the 7950 in it then the 7800 and 6800. I have only run one game on it so far but it ran very smoothly. I guess because its more powerful it does not need to work as hard. I would have thought that because its more powerful it is going to produce more heat though.

Running at full resolution, with all DX11 settings active, and MLAA with 16x ansitropic filtering, the framerates are smooth as silk regardless of what is on the screen or how many characters are visible, and that computer never even gets noticeably warm. The reviews of that model laptop were right. It is definitely noisier than your average laptop. but the design and the fans keep things running cool. I have it sitting on an xPad to help the airflow, but no other cooling fans other than internal.

Re: My voodoo collection

By the way, since I have been out of the latest and greatest in video cards for a while, any simple explanations of the difference between FSAA and MLAA? Going through the options on Deus Ex, it generally scrolls left-to-right from lower settings to higher, and lists MLAA to the far right after FSAA "high." In theory, that would make it sound like a higher setting, but reading some things on the internet made it seem like it was actually a lower performance hit as it does the AA in post processing rather than during rendering, and offloads that to the CPU (and with a hex-core CPU like I have, I have the extra pipelines.) I tried switching back and forth between FSAA on high and MLAA, and the differences are slight. FSAA high might have a slight edge, but it is very slight. Either way, I saw no appreciable performance penalties (even with 16x ansitropic filtering and all DX11 effects running.) Most of the information that I googled was a bit more tech oriented and not real-world performance oriented. What should my best option really be?

I found some comparison articles, and now I am even more confused. They said that MLAA only worked on AMD cards, but it is an active option in the game with my nVidia cards, and clearly seems to be doing something. I also am really out of touch -- I knew nothing about FXAA instead of AA (FSAA). FXAA is supposed to be faster and more efficient than traditional AA, and also faster than MLAA. The options that the settings give are for FXAA at low, medium and high, or MLAA. It sounds like FXAA must be developer-enabled, but a comparison on HardOCP judged FXAA the winner.

Found a different article on techspot that said that MLAA worked on both cards, but in a comparison recommended using FXAA instead of MLAA if you have nVidia cards. Ye gods.

So, based on your posts and what you've read, it sounds like FXAA is the way to go? At least for the next year or two, at which point your lappy will be dated and you'll likely have to start dialing down settings to play the latest games. I've always hated that about technology.

Definitely. Unfortunately, the one downside to PC gaming is that you have to make choices about the settings, and there are now more than ever!

I have been so busy at work that I have used what little computer time that I have had to play Deus Ex as a way to unwind, but this weekend is going to involve some serious work starting to tranfer files. There is a utility in Windows 7 for just that purpose -- a nice touch. They had something similar before but it never seemed to work well. Hopefully it was improved.

I may have posted it but probably didn't. For the old laptop I would just use drivexml to make a complete image on the x7200 and I would extract what I needed from it as I needed it. I would suggest you do the same for the voodoo but if you are using raid 0 that makes things a bit more complicated.

It is too bad that you don't have a router. The other slower alternative would be to set both old computers drives as network shared drives and copy your files to the x7200.

*Edit* Well today turned out to be super dermal fun day. After verifying I had the right size drill bit using a peice of folded paper I pulled the board back out and ran through the 3 holes. The standoffs are fitted but I ran into another problem. Another standoff randomly fell off the board that holds the northbridge / southbridge heat spreader in place. Upon closer inspection I noticed another one was loose and most of them were glued in place with super glue. Who ever owned this thing was a complete idiot.

The video card standoff repair is done. It posted right up and I thoroughly shook the laptop with it powered on and the video card did not loose its connection with the motherboard.

Luckily the pads around the heat spreader standoffs are intact so its just a matter of carefully putting a few drops of solder on them.

Easy transfer worked fine. It is really mostly specific files that I want to transfer, not so much account information or settings.

Not the RAGE yet, no. That one is going to be more difficult. I want to clean up and uninstall nearly everything first, then set up a network between the two and probably let it run overnight. If I can get home early enough tonight I am going to get it started.
